Flying to Indonesia

set off on our expedition through the islands of indo.

sunny

On to singapore where the rain lashed down, the accomodation was mega expensive and we slept with the cockroaches. We spend just the day and night needed to catch our flight. Whoop, exciting, back on a plane and winging our way to Bali. The flight was no more than two and a half hours, we touch down at Depensar airport at 1amish and set off to kuta bali, the australian tourist mecka and what we thought maybe a little bit like paradise. That idea was soon squashed as we arrive to a huge traffic jam of taxis ferrying back drunk ozzies in the midst of more wasted ozzies stumbling up the road, we had to pinch our selves as we thought we were in Nottingham on a friday night. These blooming ozzies had also taken most of the rooms so we were walking around for ages to find one, i was quite upset as it was the start of the euros and I was missing out on some much needed football action.
The next day we decide to take a stroll around kuta Bali, by day it was much the same as the night except all these drunk ozzies were surfing. It was the busiest beach we have ever seen, with no where to swim and barely any room to chill out in the beaming sunshine. If you cant beat them join them, we start supping some beers and eventually get on to the happy hour cocktails. Zoe gets very drunk and trys to dance with me on the beach, I push her away and tell her how embarrassing she is, ha ha the boots on the other foot this time. We get up and decide that one day in Kuta Bali is enough.
Off to Kuta Lombok a beach on the south of the island (Lombok). We decide to go at it via public transport rather than the tourist bus, and soon realised our mistake. We get a surprisingly good deal first to get to Depensar, so all going well. At Depensar it was a different story as our bartering tools didint really work and we end up paying more than we would have liked to get to Padangbai. Very stressed by this point we board the beemo (local bus) and have to wait for another hour before it leaves they only leave when full! We arrive in Padangbai and are quickly harrassed and told that we must buy a ticket quickly before the ferry leaves, they first try and charge us a ridiculous price, we decide that we would rather stay the night at the port, and they started to drop their prices by nearly half we jump at it a little to quickly, still getting a little bit ripped off. Pretty gutted we board the boat but soon find a couple of ozzies who had paid three times as much, we started to feel a little better. We arrive in Kuta Lombok late that night a little fed up with the public transport system and the indonesian scam artists.
Kuta Lombok was pretty cool, its a little costal village, where horse and cart is still used, not as much as the noisy motor bikes but it was still nice to see. We ended staying a couple of days and were probably the only people in the village not surfing, we were offered lessons on quote "some pussy waves" but we declined, and instead rebelled against the loud motor bikes and set off on push bikes to explore the surrounding area. Finding a nice white sand beache, and village we cycled about 20 k. Kuta was a really lovely place, the locals were incredibly friendly, the kids starting teaching us some Indonesian and the food was awesome and awsomely cheap, eating some lovley local veggie dishes for around 50 pence you cant complain.
